ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday issued a notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for violation election conduct ahead of a rally planned in Pind Dadan Khan (Jhelum-II).
The ECP in its notice said that mass rallies being planned by Imran Khan prior to by-elections were violation of its code of conduct.
“Imran Khan should abide by the code of conduct as its violation is a corrupt practice; the violation of the directive shall be proceeded under Article 204 of the constitution read with section 103 A of the Representation of People Act 1976,” read the notice.
The notice said that preparations for huge PTI rallies at Khewra, Dharyal Jalib, Pinawal, Jalalpur Sharif of Pind Dadan Khan tehsil were under way in connection with by-elections in NA-63 Jhelum on August 24.
The code of conduct clearly bars holding of rallies or public gatherings except corner meetings in the constituency where election schedule has been announced.
It also bars prime minister, chief minister, federal ministers, state ministers, advisers to the president and prime minister, provincial ministers, advisers to the cheif minister, members of National Assembly and provincial assemblies or any person on their behalf not to visit the constituency or a polling station after the issuance of schedule of by-election till completion of polls.
Meanwhile, the ECP has directed returning officers (ROs) supervising the elections of mayor/deputy mayor to immediately send copies of results to the commission on specified form through District Returning Officer (DROs) concerned.
